Both Monday and Tuesday
Expo
What rule would you set for the future library? Would it regard the way we move, which sound we can make or how the library should smell? The library is a public space that holds many unwritten rules that guide our behavior and affect how we communicate with each other. Who decides on the rules? For whom is it comfortable? We take a closer look at the intervention of the Dancing Library and how the Reykjavik City Library has been exploring comfort and communication beyond language with different versions of temporary public living rooms. We will exchange playful methods of exploring social spaces co-created with users that give us a glimpse into the future of the library as a democratic platform.
Host
Martyna Karolina Daniel & Dögg Sigmarsdóttir
Martyna Karolina Daniel, intercultural specialist and Dögg Sigmarsdóttir, project manager of civic participation. Someone once called us the cool library ladies, and that made us happy and proud. At first, you would not necessarily associate us with libraries, because of our background in filmmaking, arts, law, curation and philosophy, but we are committed to making libraries more diverse and participative. Three years ago, we met at the department called communication and innovation at the Reykjavik City Library and we have been exploring and experimenting together on topics relating to belonging, citizenship in the making and inclusive societies ever since.
